Responsible Sourcing Policy
World Gold Diamonds is committed to ensuring all gold and diamonds it trades are sourced responsibly, free from conflict, human rights abuses, environmental harm and illegal mining activities.
Effective Date: January 2024 | Last Reviewed: August 2026Purpose & Scope
This Responsible Sourcing Policy governs how World Gold Diamonds identifies, assesses, manages and mitigates risks associated with the sourcing of gold, diamonds and associated minerals from its supply chain. It applies to all Company operations, sourcing activities, trading relationships and export services.
The policy covers minerals sourced directly from mining sites, purchased from third-party miners and artisanal producers, acquired through brokers and aggregators, and all downstream commercial activities associated with those minerals.
Our Commitment
World Gold Diamonds is irrevocably committed to:
- Trading only in minerals that are free from association with armed conflict, illegal taxation or extortion by non-state armed groups
- Refusing to source from any operator engaged in systematic human rights violations, child labour or forced labour
- Supporting artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities through responsible procurement that improves livelihoods rather than exploiting vulnerability
- Maintaining transparency throughout our supply chain and making documentation available to buyers and regulatory authorities
- Continuous improvement of our sourcing standards in line with evolving international guidance
Regulatory Framework
- OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas (3rd Edition)
- Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS)
- London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Responsible Gold Guidance
- Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Standards
- United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs)
- ILO Core Labour Standards
- Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Section 1502) principles
- EU Conflict Minerals Regulation (EU 2017/821)
Supply Chain Due Diligence
The Company implements the OECD five-step framework for mineral supply chain due diligence:
- Step 1 — Management Systems: Establish supply chain policy, internal management structures and grievance mechanisms
- Step 2 — Risk Identification: Map the supply chain and identify actual or potential risks of conflict financing, human rights abuse or illegal activity
- Step 3 — Risk Management: Implement a risk response strategy, engage with suppliers to address identified risks and apply suspension or disengagement where risks cannot be mitigated
- Step 4 — Audit: Subject supply chain due diligence to independent third-party audit
- Step 5 — Reporting: Publish annual supply chain due diligence findings and communicate outcomes to counterparties and stakeholders
Risk Assessment
The Company conducts country-level and site-level risk assessments for all sourcing locations. Mali is classified under OECD guidance as a conflict-affected and high-risk area (CAHRA), requiring the application of the full OECD five-step framework. Risk assessments consider:
- Presence of non-state armed groups, criminal networks or militias
- Documented human rights violations associated with mining activities
- Illegal taxation, extortion or protection payments along the supply chain
- Prevalence of child labour or forced labour in the sourcing area
- Governance quality and enforcement capacity of local authorities
- Environmental and community impact of mining operations
Gold Sourcing Standards
All gold sourced by World Gold Diamonds must meet the following minimum standards:
- Extracted from licensed and government-authorised mining operations
- Free from association with any non-state armed group, illegal militia or criminal organisation
- Accompanied by valid export permits, certificates of origin and weight notes
- Subject to independent assay by a recognised third-party laboratory prior to purchase
- Traceable through documented chain of custody from mine to point of sale
- Produced in accordance with national environmental regulations and minimum labour standards
Diamond Sourcing Standards
All rough diamonds purchased and traded by World Gold Diamonds are:
- Covered by a valid Kimberley Process Certificate of Origin confirming conflict-free status
- Sourced from KPCS participant countries and exporters in good standing
- Transported and traded in sealed, tamper-evident containers with KP documentation intact
- Not acquired from or through any entity under KPCS suspension or sanction
Cut and polished diamonds must be accompanied by GIA, IGI or equivalent gemological grading reports. The Company applies the same responsible sourcing standards to cut diamonds as to rough stones.
Environmental Responsibility
World Gold Diamonds acknowledges the environmental impact of mining and is committed to sourcing from operations that apply responsible environmental management. This includes refusing to source from operators engaged in:
- Illegal land clearance, deforestation or protected area incursions
- Uncontrolled mercury or cyanide use in gold processing without adequate containment
- Disposal of mining effluent or tailings in waterways or without regulatory authorisation
- Operations that have been formally cited for significant environmental violations by national authorities
Community & Labour Standards
The Company will not source from any mining operation found to use child labour (persons under 18 in hazardous mining activities), forced labour, bonded labour or trafficked labour. Workers at sourcing operations must receive fair remuneration, safe working conditions and freedom of association in accordance with ILO Core Labour Standards.
World Gold Diamonds actively supports artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities by offering fair, transparent pricing and prioritising long-term supply relationships that contribute to community economic development.
Auditing & Verification
Supply chain due diligence is subject to independent third-party audit on an annual basis. Audit findings, corrective actions and outcomes are documented and retained. The Company engages accredited assay laboratories and independent inspectors for verification of gold purity and weight, and accredited KP auditors for diamond certification.
Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually and updated to reflect changes in the OECD Guidance, Kimberley Process requirements, LBMA standards or the Company's operational risk profile. For responsible sourcing queries: info@worldgolddiamonds.com
